Well, sure you’d love it if some in-demand decorating genius would take time out of her busy hotel-designing schedule to fill your place up with spankin’-new furniture and a snappy Viceroy-esque vibe.
But that doesn’t mean you want to pay for it.
A reasonable alternative? Take that battered yet beloved hand-me-down sofa to Robert Orozco at Rags to Riches in North Hollywood and he’ll have it looking like something you bought in a fancy La Brea shop in no time. The eccentric store owner, a buzzing-with-creative-energy type/human clutter magnet, will present you with an array of fabrics in every style, color, and texture you can imagine and then some.
Robert’s redone everything from regular old club chairs to airplane seats on movie sets to car interiors. (Go on. While you’re there, dare to envision your Camry’s seats covered in suede, leather, ostrich, or stingray.) Which means grandma’s chaise will be in good hands. Who knows? With a few new accessories and a new paint job, your pad may just feel like Kelly Wearstler paid it a visit.
Even if your wallet doesn’t.
Rags to Riches, 7402 Ethel Avenue, between Sherman Way and Raymer
Street, North Hollywood (818-503-0645).
