Coming of Gauge

The other day we were hanging with our two good buddies Messrs. Webster and Roget, when Webster pointed out that to gauge means “to measure exactly.” Roget agreed heartily and added that one could also say it means “to calibrate,” “dig it,” or “dope out.” (Yes. Really.)

All very apropos of the new sweater line called Gauge. Created by Brit Jane O’Brien, the knitwear is among the best fitting, and it’s insanely cute, to boot. Favorite styles include a figure-flattering multicolor chevron-stripe with sweet buttons at the shoulders and a red, white, beige, and blue scoop neck with an adorable diamond pattern and a bow in the front.

Of course, given the label’s heritage, its appeal is no surprise. Before launching Gauge, Jane worked for Donna Karan and Marc Jacobs. So she knows a thing or two about making cool sweaters.

Slip on one of these babies and you’ll swear that someone measured you exactly for the fit. And there’s no doubt you’ll dig it for many years to come.

(We tried to use dope out in a sentence. Really.)
