Bright Girl

Alison Breitman CD

You know that girl.

The one who taught herself to sew and whipped up some skirts after work. And five minutes later Bendel’s buys the whole collection. Or the one who turned your summer-house antics into a novel-screenplay-figurine deal.

Don’t be jealous of those girls. The best ones will increase your happiness, not feed your self-loathing. (Besides, your blog on conspiracy theories gets plenty of hits.)

Next up? Singer-songwriter Alison Breitman, whose self-published sophomore effort, The Game, is hauntingly beautiful, irrepressibly catchy, and just plain super. Breitman taught herself to play guitar, wrote the album’s ingenius Aimee-Mann-meets-Mazzy-Star lyrics and tunes (with co-writer Eytan Oren) put a stamp on them, and mailed them around. Jazzy.

Perfect music for driving, knitting, cooking … or — hey! — finishing that screenplay.

Because every that girl needs a soundtrack.
