You are where you live.
You’re an early adopter if you hide out in Echo Park, super crunchy if you nest in Venice, and if you rep the 90210, you’re obviously wearing the fancy pants.
But every now and then, old adages are challenged.
Match, a new lounge from the fathers of Firefly, does just that. On an unassuming corner in North Hollywood you’d expect a down-home dive, but this is French Colonial-meets-Southeast Asian sophistication fit for a righteous all-night hang.
Settle in on a sleek brown couch surrounded by lush palms and candlelight, order from the extensive cocktail menu, and soak up the indie rock/easy reggae soundtrack. The camo pant-clad bar staff will welcome you like a local — even if it’s the first time you’ve set foot in NoHo.
The bar stocks fresh juice mixers, and the apple martini makes the overzealous Jolly Rancher-flavored version seem like a wicked step-cousin. Standard-issue peanuts and pretzels have been replaced with rice cracker snack mix and fortune cookies filled with Chinese proverbs.
But cookies or none, the message is clear:
Never judge a joint by its zip code.
Match, 4657 Lankershim Boulevard, between Riverside Drive and Kling Street, North Hollywood (818-766-0116).
