Life’s a Beach

After wrestling for a latte at the coffee shop, commuting 50 minutes on five miles of freeway, and arriving late just to clog your keyboard with muffin crumbs, it’s easy to forget that L.A. is a vacation destination.

You remember, right? The ocean? The sand? The creepy weight lifters on Muscle Beach?

Westside boutique Cabaña will jog your memory. An homage to all things preppy, the shop brings resorty elements — shells, deck chairs, green (grass-like) rugs, flamingos, stripey pastel drapery-covered dressing rooms — together for an easy, breezy shopping experience.

They carry basic tees and cashmere sweaters as well as outrageous Lilly Pulitzer classics like mandarin-collared dresses with palm-tree patterns and mod ’60s minis modeled on collectible Lilly Pulitzer Barbies in the back. Everything— from colorful silk ties to pineapple-patterned padded pillows and quilts — is a bold vacation from the norm.

See? Life may not be a beach, but there’s always a bright side.

Even if it’s hard to see from your cubicle.
