On the rack, your new huge shades said Jackie O. So you had to have them.
On your face, they screamed Sally Jessy Raphaƫl. So you had to ditch them.
That isn’t likely to happen at vintage sunglasses shop Jack’s Eyewear. Owner, expert, and collector extraordinaire Jack Bernstein sells pieces dating from the Revolutionary 1600s all the way up to the Run DMC 1990s — but it’s his well of mid-to-late-century sunglasses by Dior, Dunhill, Persol, and Porsche by Carrera that you’ll want to relish.
In addition to hawking his wares, Bernstein is also a master craftsman and runs a full finish lab in the back. He can customize, modify, reshape, redesign, refurbish, and repair any glasses.
But most importantly, he’ll give you an honest opinion and will help you find those Playboys (a la Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface) — but he may discourage you from buying them (if they look too Married to the Mob).
Or, hey, maybe that’s what you’re after.
Until you see them off the rack and in the mirror.
