All in the Family

Activities like ship-in-a-bottling and herring-creaming have gone the way of the dodo. (Sniff.)

But Family, a newly opened shop on Fairfax, is determined not to let that happen to the endangered hobby called browsing. There, they want you to take your own sweet time exploring the mishmash of art, books, comics, zines, movies.

Organized by format, you’ll find yourself eyeing Trinie Dalton’s short stories one second and wondering how you ever lived without the complete works of Iceberg Slim the next.

After checking out the prints and posters, peruse limited-edition works like Kramers Ergot comic anthology and It Looks Like a Smile by Geoff McFetridge. You’ll also discover hard-to-find graphic novels like Paper Rad’s B.J. and Da Dogs and photographer Stephen Shore’s Uncommon Places.

With so many must-haves, you’re liable to forget you’re just looking.

Which could lead to shopping.

And that’s one pastime that’ll never go out of style.
