Squares? Hip? Not exactly.
Going back to square one is never fun. And square dancing? You’ll pass on the hay-covered floor and bossy old cowboys.
But Three Square, a new bakery and cafe on Abbot Kinney, is the exception. Wash down breakfast baked goods like ginger scones and strawberry danishes with Julius Meinl coffee. Later, try a chicken club or brie and caramelized pecans on fig-walnut bread with a specialty soda (try Jamaican Ting). Or pick up some cookies, tarts, fresh breads, teas and spreads for later.
Just one bite of any of their pretzel rolls (jalapeno and cheese, please!) and you’ll be hungry for more — and happy to know their restaurant next door will be open in a few weeks.
Because you could always go for a good square meal.
Three Square Bakery and Cafe, 1121 Abbot Kinney Boulevard, between Westminster and San Juan Avenues, Venice (310-399-6504).
