You know what they say: One night in Bangkok and the world’s your oyster.
A very jet-lagged oyster.
Save yourself a trip and hit Happi Songs Asian Tavern, the newest member of the 750ml/Malo/Cobras & Matadors family.
Pan-Asian street style has taken over the former Flora Kitchen space. Graffiti-esque calligraphy covers the blowups of old movie posters and photos of tattooed gangsters; big paper lanterns flank an orange low-rider bicycle in the rafters.
The snacky lunch and dinner menu follows suit: soups (miso, noodles, crab ravioli), salads (dandelion greens with mustard dressing), and meaty bites (tasty barbecued pork ribs).
With DJs on weekends, the place will likely get packed, so grab a beer or sake at the bar and wish for the three Japanese lucky cats perched above the door to grant you a table.
Hey, Wong Kar-Wai not?
Happi Songs Asian Tavern, 460 South La Brea Avenue, at Sixth Street, entrance in alley, La Brea Corridor (323-936-7622).
