Draw the Line

Portraits by Albert Reyes

The one time you commissioned artwork, you dealt with a nice, mustachioed, bereted man on the boardwalk.

But somehow the large-noggin version of you driving a tiny convertible, high side ponytail blowing in the wind, just isn’t holding up.

Artist Albert Reyes is known for his contemporary portraits of family, friends, pets, and pop culture icons. And, now, he’ll draw you.

First, call to discuss scale, style, and materials. While Reyes is particularly fond of realistic renderings on the back of used book covers, his range encompasses urban impressionist line drawings, modern caricatures, relief prints, and folk-punk paintings.

Then mail or drop off photos at his El Sereno studio, and after a few weeks, he’ll send the finished piece your way.

Once you put it on display, be prepared for the compliments to start rolling in.

Careful, though: You wouldn’t want to get a big head.

Albert Reyes (650-703-5307). Exhibition June 16-July 14, at Bent, 1011-b Mission Street, between Meridian and Diamond Avenues, South Pasadena (626-403-6453). Reception for the artist, Saturday, 7-11 p.m. To see artwork, go to
