One thing about rebellion: It’s rarely pretty. (For proof, please turn to page 138 of your high school yearbook or, better yet, just call your mom.)
Leave it to Daughters of the Revolution to gussy things up. Using redrawn patterns from vintage wallpaper and postcards, Malibu local Emily Cadenhead turns organic cottons into ladylike looks.
Dresses like Butterfly (a subtle East-meets-Wild-West number) and Angel (bias-cut with a slight poof in the sleeve) are available in both mini and maxi lengths. For those bohemian days, there’s the Frock in sea foam silk paisley print striped with silver lurex. And the Shirtdress, styled after a utilitarian piece from the ’50s, may end up being your workday uniform.
It’s a tightly edited debut collection, but the bold prints and femme cuts still make it tough to choose.
But just knowing is half the battle.
Available at Kate, 515 South Fairfax Avenue, between West Fifth Street and Maryland Drive (323-938-7311).
