You’re a sucker for good courtroom drama.
And chef Michael Mina’s new XIV has it all.
The latest SBE restaurant is modeled — in Philippe Starck’s wonky way — after a French chateau where Louis the Great might have held court (had he a thing for animal-print club couches, goblet- and candelabra-strewn mantels, and steel bars lit by chandelier).
In feast-like fashion, the menu (pumpkin dumplings with stewed cherries, brown butter, and sage; lemongrass custard with cola, buttermilk, saffron, and sweet potato-yuzu mochi) is to be enjoyed in a new separate but equal dining style where each dish ordered is divided among your guests.
The reservation lines are open, but the restaurant isn’t until tomorrow. In the meantime, fix XIV’s signature Pimm’s Rangoon or Chupacabra cocktails at home.
Just don’t fail to appear.
XIV, 8117 Sunset Boulevard, at Crescent Heights Boulevard, Sunset Strip (323-656-1414 or sbe.com).
