Easy Ecofriendly Ways for Your Family to Go Green

Good Habits for Green Kids

bum boosa green bathroom tissue!

Earth to Mom! Kids are like sponges, so model green habits from the start.

Straight Poop
If it’s yellow, let it mellow. (You know the rest.) Make this rhyme a favorite in your potty trainer’s repertoire: Each flush uses gallons of water. Wipe with Bum Boosa bamboo toilet paper ($5 for four rolls). It’s easy on little bottoms and the planet.

No Waste, Better Taste
Buy Straus Organic milk in glass bottles ($3, at Whole Foods Markets and Gelson’s). Ditto for Saint Benoît yogurt ($3-$9, at Whole Foods Markets). Extra credit: Take a glass container from home for DIY peanut butter. Just ask the clerk to weigh your jar before you fill up.

When You Gotta To-Go
Show up to your favorite takeout joint armed with a bento box ($38, at Plastica, 8405 West Third Street; 323-655-1051) and a nylon bag ($8). Waive napkins, plasticware, chopsticks, or anything else bound for the garbage. You might have to suffer through an eye roll or two, but it will teach tykes to stick to their convictions.
