Not Your Grandfather's Made-to-Measure Shirting

Native Son Custom Shirts at Confederacy

made-to-measure shirts!

If boyfriend jeans taught us anything, it’s that we don’t actually need a boyfriend to pull them off. (As a style, people. As. a. style.)

Same goes for the boyfriend shirt. And at Confederacy, you can actually have one of your own made, courtesy of Los Angeles’s meticulously tailored menswear line Native Son.

It takes all of about fifteen minutes to get measured. Then it’s time to sort through the thick book of fabric swatches and handpick every last detail, from collar shape (we appreciate the rounded cricket) and button size to the stitching color and monogram initials.

Crisp white is a year-round classic (especially when tied at the waist a la Brigitte Bardot), but with a turnaround of two weeks, there’s still time for peach cotton or light blue plaid. For fall, bank on the red check or solid royal — particularly fetching when tucked into a high-waist pencil skirt or tossed over cropped pants.

Of course, the experience makes a great gift. It just means you’ll have to go through the trouble of stealing it back later.

Available by special order at Confederacy, 4661 Hollywood Boulevard, between North Vermont and Hillhurst Avenues, Los Feliz (323-913-3040 or shopconfederacy.com). $300.
