It used to be you were always running across town to grab a cup of joe that wasn’t middle of the road. Now you can hit the middle of the city: Pico is getting some freshly brewed action with Paper or Plastik Cafe, the new spot from husband/wife design team Anya and Yasha Michelson.
Swing by the open, airy space for a selection of handcrafted espresso drinks (curated by coffee buff and Intelligentsia alum Tony Konecny) and coffee by the cup courtesy of Intelligentsia and Ecco Caffe.
If you need some grub to take the edge off all that caffeine, you’re in luck. On the savory side, Heirloom L.A. (these guys are everywhere!) provides a rotating selection of sandwiches and lasagna cupcakes. Cake Monkey Bakery handles most things sweet (think pistachio tea cake, yo-hos, and coffee cake muffins). Flaky croissants are courtesy of the beloved neighboring La Maison du Pain.
The owners are firm believers in coffee shop as neighborhood social nucleus. So go ahead — pull up a chair and stay awhile.
