farmshop opens in brentwood!

Cashmere sweats at James Perse and Calypso Home gilded furniture do not a country market make.

But Brentwood Country Mart is about to get down-home with Jeff Cerciello’s FarmShop, which just opened with coffee and pastries in the old City Bakery spot.

For now, it’s bakery only. But Cerciello, formerly Thomas Keller’s culinary director, has tilled the space into a soon-to-open casual restaurant and market-slash-larder, complete with local produce, a butcher shop, a fifteen-foot-long artisan cheese station, and tabletop items.

You can kick up your work boots at one of the resto’s rustic wood tables or a booth covered in teal mohair. The forthcoming menu (which includes a four-course prix fixe dinner) will change daily and borrow ingredients from the market for dishes like homey roasts and fried chicken.

Starting Saturday, weekend brunch classics (soft-scrambled eggs with corned beef hash, buckwheat pancakes) are fuel for an afternoon browsing the mart’s boutiques. You know, like they do on the farm.

FarmShop, 225 26th Street, at San Vicente Boulevard, Brentwood (310-566-2400 or farmshopla.com).
