Black cats typically mean bad luck.
But stumbling across the just-opened Black Cat Bakery on Fairfax is your good fortune.
Vintage architectural elements collected from local flea markets make the former Mani’s spot feel like your best friend’s enviable 1920s West Hollywood duplex (minus her dirty dishes and crazy roommate) — perfect for indulging in familiar favorites.
Start the day with granola topped with Greek yogurt and a slow-cooked apricot or a bowl of bibimbap (a traditional Korean lunch reimagined as farro with Swiss chard, roasted tomatoes, mushrooms, asparagus, burrata, and an egg sunny side up).
Pop in at lunch and try a hearty meatball sandwich or a crab cake salad. For dessert, you’ll have to decide between chocolate chip cookies with smoked sea salt, double chocolate muffins with cheesecake filling, and carrot cake drizzled with sticky toffee glaze.
Good luck with that.
