The one nagging question that plagues all parents, no matter how many times you think you’ve answered it: What in the world should we do today?
Here are three local adventures that promise to take the puzzle out of the query.
EAT
Explore molecular gastronomy for mini mouths at Vu (14160 Palawan Way, at the Jamaica Bay Inn; 310-439-3033). Order reconstructed Caprese balls and bison carpaccio for yourself; request the kids’ tasting menu for your little top chefs in training. Future foodies chow down on kiddie classics with cutting-edge twists like chicken-fried watermelon, popcorn jello, and pink lemonade mayo.
PLAY
Harbour seals choose one stretch of coastline to live out their frisky lives, but the playful creatures rarely select a spot so close to people, making La Valencia Hotel (1132 Prospect Street, San Diego; 858-454-0771) a natural SoCal treasure. Belly up to the marine mammals with the Seal of a Deal package, which includes a one-night stay, admission for four to the Birch Aquarium, and a picnic lunch near Casa Beach (known to locals as Children’s Pool).
LOVE
Take part in a big-hearted, paper-craft workshop at Urbanic Paper Boutique (1644 Abbot Kinney Boulevard, between Venice and Palms Boulevards; 310-401-0427). Punch, stamp, and layer your way to a new level of inspired creativity as you and your little sweetheart build customized valentines. Lesson learned: Love conquers all. Wednesday, February 9, 1-4 p.m. R.S.V.P. (required) to hello@urbanicpaper.com. Admission is $3.
