Radio Days
103.1FM Launches

Remember when “indie rock” described more than a hairdo?
Times they are a-changin’. The local “alternative” station is likely to be a corporate hit-plugging machine, complete with obnoxious DJs, call-in contests, and playlists that read like soundtracks for Jennifer Love Hewitt movies.
So when we stumbled upon the new Indie 103.1 FM, we couldn’t believe our ears. Interpol. The Postal Service. Bright Eyes. Old REM. Elvis Costello. We’d died and gone to radio heaven. All in the comfort of our very own morning commute. Indie 103.1 FM is light on the talking, heavy on what’s known as “adult alternative.” Which, contrary to what it sounds like (high-grade porn), means really cool music.
Of course, coolness has a shelf life: It’s only a matter of time before the station goes off the air or succumbs to some mind-numbing corporate force.
So tune in fast while the listening’s still good.
