Highlight of the Day
Clip-on hair extensions

Growing your own hair is so ten years ago.
But wearing someone else’s has its drawbacks too. Glue it in? Yeah, that sounds real appealing.
The new extensions at Salon Duarte are a perfect way to augment your mane. Rather than adding a whole new head of hair, try getting just a few in a lighter shade for instant highlights. The premium 100 percent human hair is threaded (not woven or glued), along with a bit of your own, through a small copper tube. The tube is then clamped on to hold the extension in place. (Copper promotes hair growth.) It remains hidden, laying flat against your hairline, and can be washed, brushed, and styled like normal hair.
When your hair starts to grow out, the tubes are loosened, moved up, and re-clamped. (Or, if you like, removed — without damage to your own hair.)
The locks, obtainable in several natural textures and colors, also come in more out-there hues, like the magenta you once favored.
Wasn’t that about, oh, ten years ago?
Available at Salon Duarte, 5927 Franklin Avenue, between Tamarind and
Bronson Avenues (323-461-5500 or duartesalon.com).
