School on Wheels

Doing loads of homework? Drag city.
Studying with a new buddy? Funhampton!
School on Wheels needs tutors (just like you) to work with homeless kids all around Los Angeles. Students in the program range from kindergartners to high schoolers; one-on-one homework sessions happen once a week for an hour at libraries, shelters, and motels.
Some kids need help with basic reading and take-home assignments; others want to go over tricky topics from class. It just depends on the day. Either way, having a tutor helps them stay positive, focused, and excited about school (in a stressful and often bleak world).
Because there are kiddies involved, application is a thorough process (online forms with two solid references, a background check including Live Scan). Once accepted, you’ll attend a two-hour orientation at the Downtown Learning Center. (Careful, this isn’t the chic loft scene: There’s safe parking behind the center.)
In other words, it takes some effort to get involved. But once you get started, you’ll be glad you did.
Especially when you find yourself in Awesomeburg.
