No Champagne, No Gain

Festive Holiday Drinks

cheers!

Beer before liquor? Never sicker. Holiday drinks and a hangover helper? You’re in the clear.

Champagne Shenanigans
1. Splurge. NYE comes just once a year.
2. Bellini yourself: Add white peach puree to Prosecco.
3. Pomegranate seeds plus champers makes a Pom Pilot.
4. Hide a bottle in the fridge crisper drawer. Take out at 12:01 a.m. Be 2007’s first hero.

Mandrake’s French 75
1. Combine two parts Boodles gin, one part lemon juice, one teaspoon of sugar.
2. Shake with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass rimmed with sugar.
3. Top with champagne and garnish with a lemon twist.
4. Try not to cry when half your drink splashes out as you walk across the room. (Stupid glass.)

Alaia 2004
1. Find this rare Spanish red at Silver Lake Wine.
2. Note it’s a blend of 50 percent prieto picudo, 45 percent tempranillo, and 5 percent merlot.
3. Impress all with your pronunciation of Castilla y Leon.
4. Be impressed by the soft, rich, fruity flavor and the $11.75 price tag.

Hang in There

1. Take milk thistle and dandelion herbs before drinking, then again before bed.
2. Seep one chunk raw ginger with one teaspoon organic honey in hot water for tea.
3. Rub castor oil on your stomach to help detoxify your poor liver.
4. If all else fails, take nux vomica (available at Whole Foods) three or four times and call naturopath Dr. Patti Kim in the morning (562-760-2162).
