Iced Out

Poppies Popsicles

suck on these!

When it comes to frozen goodies, it’s all about the red. And if you can’t get your hands on red, then you’ll take a purple — but there’s absolutely no way you’re getting stuck with green. Ick.

Wait. Those are colors. Not flavors.

For a taste of something other than icy Yellow No. 5, snack on a Poppies Popsicle. Unlike the glow-in-the-dark tubes of frosty mystery, the Green sisters, Sarah and Sophia, use all-natural ingredients and organic, local produce in their pops whenever they can.

So far, there are six types of the treat inspired by the many paletas downed on the sisters’ childhood summer trips to Mexico. Satisfy your sweet tooth with fudgesicle-like cocoa, creamy strawberry, or sweet pecan. Over on the healthy side, try vitamin C-packed hibiscus or super green alfalfa. And for a fiery end to your popsicle tour, pico de gallo (¡Hola chile de arbol!) will do the trick.

Sure beats the old one-two-your-entire-mouth’s-blue.

Available at Cube, 615 North La Brea Avenue, between Melrose Avenue and Clinton Street (323-939-1148). For more information, go to poppiesinc.com.
