Sometimes Sorry Isn’t Good Enough

Dedicated E-mail: “Atonement”

Atonement!

You’re certain you’re related to either George Washington or the cherry tree: You never tell a lie. (Shaving off five pounds at the DMV so does not count.)

The same can’t be said for little Briony Tallis in the movie Atonement.

Joe Wright, director of Pride & Prejudice, reunited with his award-winning filmmaking team and Academy Award-nominated actress Keira Knightley for another classic British romance. It’s already won the Golden Globe for Best Picture, and it’s got seven Oscar nominations including Best Picture.

In the movie (lushly costumed and filmed, BTW), Knightley (so pretty) plays Cecilia Tallis and stars opposite James McAvoy’s Robbie Turner. Her younger sister, 13-year-old Briony, has a crush on the housekeeper’s son (Robbie) and doesn’t want him to want Cecilia. When opportunity presents itself, Briony accuses Robbie of a crime he did not commit, changing everyone’s lives forever.

Based on Ian McEwan’s best-selling book of the same name, it’s a story of soul mates separated by a terrible lie — and one woman’s desire to right a wrong.

Something you can easily do by skipping the gym.
