Just for the Halibut

SugarFish by Sushi Nozawa Opens

hey sugar!

Sushi Nozawa: No shoes, no shirt, no service.*

* No requests.  No bowls of rice. No putting your hand roll down. No soy-saucing presauced pieces. No ordering too much. No ordering at the bar. No taking too long to eat.

No wonder you’re excited for SugarFish. Opening today in Marina del Rey, it’s the baby (literally — Nozawa’s son Tom is head of kitchen and fish ops) to Kazunori Nozawa’s Studio City original with the same high-quality fish but fewer sushi nazi rules.

Hidden in a mini-mall, the bright space-agey gem offers three daily Trust Me omakase menus (blue crab rolls and albacore sushi always included) from which diners can choose (there are cooked and vegetarian options for raw-fish haters).

A few things to know: There’s no show (the chefs stay in the kitchen), no schmancy rolls, no figuring gratuity (tax and tip are included in the price), and nobody getting kicked out.

No kidding.

SugarFish by Sushi Nozawa, 4722¼ Admiralty Way, between Mindanao and Fiji Ways, Marina del Rey (310-306-6300 or
