Exercise fads love to poach terminology from other disciplines.
“Cardio” used to belong to doctors. A “circuit” was something electricians fixed. And as recently as five years ago your “core” was the stuff you saved for your shrink.
No longer. Nowadays it refers to that all-important region of your physique, the transversus abdominis.
The best way to work it out? Core Fusion at Sacred Movement. Already a hit at Exhale Spa in New York, the class combines elements of Pilates (perhaps you’ve heard of it), yoga (ring a bell?), barre work (cast your mind back to ballet classes), core conditioning, and orthopedic stretching for an exhaustive (and exhausting) program.
What to expect? Floor work, some familiar asanas, exercises at the barre, training by using your own body weight for resistance, and relaxation poses. The results? You should notice increased flexibility and strength, better posture, washboard abs, a tighter booty, and the peaceful, centered feeling you get from a good yoga class.
It’s enough to make you glad they stole “fusion” from the restaurateurs.
