The Electric Complex
Seattle
September 15, 2009

Pumpkins. Leaves at your booted feet. Sleazy Halloween costumes in storefront windows.

Fall is coming.

And like the change in season, Grand Archives’s moody second release, Keep in Mind Frankenstein, feels eerily familiar.

Proving the band is no one-off success, Frankenstein is another lush, lyrically poetic, melancholy album — in turns strange and pensive, occasionally even borderline chirpy. Opening track “Topsy’s Revenge” pays a ukulele tribute to the elephant Thomas Edison electrocuted on Coney Island. “Silver Among the Gold” sounds like an Indian summer surfer’s track.

While Grand Archives is best live, every track fills the room with equally round sound.

Expect another monster smash.
