Live like a Queen
Seattle
October 09, 2009

Longtime Seattle band Visqueen recently released its raucous pop-rock third album, Message to Garcia, to huge critical and fan acclaim.

We hoodwinked flame-haired front woman Rachel Flotard into revealing what makes her particular brand of cool.

What’s your favorite place to relax over a cup of joe?
I enjoy sitting at Cafe Presse, asking the staff to hook me up with more cinnamon.

To whom do you entrust your gorgeous wild red hair?
I’ve been all over the map with this mop. Lately I’m seeing my girl Mason at Gene Juarez downtown. She nails it.

Describe your personal style.
A total mess: jeans, T-shirt, panic attack.

Vinyl, CDs, or iTunes?
All three! I’m about to press Message to Garcia on vinyl. Shhh! Don’t tell my drummer, Ben. He’s always wanted to be on an LP. Now that I own a record label [Local 638 Records], the least I can do is make dreams come true.

Where do you like to hear music in Seattle?
I sure do enjoy an evening at The Triple Door. There’s something decadent about sitting comfortably in the dark, eating vittles while people rock out over your plates.

Your favorite local place to play?
Hands down Salmon Bay Eagles #2141! The award for best wood paneling and use of American flags goes to SBE.

Other than all things music — what’s your talent?
Finding humor in everything.

Long may she reign.
