Ready in a Jeff
Washington, D.C.
August 31, 2009

The Italians can keep Leonardo, Raphael, and the other ninja turtle thinkers. When it comes to renaissance men, our third president sets the standard — as demonstrated at The Jefferson, which opens today after an immaculate renaissance of its own.

Author: Just as TJ wrote with a feather his entire life, you’ll go for Quill. The swanky lounge’s futuristic back-lit glass bar serves creative cocktails with house infusions and aloe vera. Conclude with upscale American fare at in-house resto Plume.

Architect: Wood floors and door frames are modeled after Monticello. Decor features hand-drawn renderings of the mansion and floor plans for buildings Jefferson designed.

Statesman: Conduct meetings with utmost discretion in the curtained booth of the cozy Book Room. In the open, meet for tea in The Greenhouse under the newly uncovered art deco skylight.

Winemaker: The guests-only spa’s vinotherapies are inspired by Monticello’s vineyards. Even Red Flower’s custom bath products use the same herbs and produce grown on the boss man’s farm.

This Jefferson’s moving on up.

The Jefferson, 1200 16th Street NW, at M Street (202-448-2300 or jeffersondc.com). DailyCandy readers have access to the exclusive spa on weekdays through the entire month of September. Call 202-448-2300 to book appointments.
