Costco isn’t for everyone (really, do you need eight Scopes?).
More conservative shoppers should head straight to Half Italian Grocer, opening tomorrow in Logan Square.
Nancy Kamp is the half Italian who runs the mom-and-pop, stocking shelves with natural foods (bulk nuts, beans, and grains), European imports (Rigoni organic Fiordifrutta jams and honey, Castillo de Canena olive oil), and local fare (The Scrumptious Pantry pickles, Crop to Cup coffee).
The deli is where Kamp really shines, serving a rotating selection of fresh pastas, sauces, and meatballs; soups, salads, and sandwiches; and hearty dishes from the motherland (chicken Vesuvio and limon, giambotta). Myriad cheeses, olives, and high-quality meats like La Quercia fill the deli case.
Sidle up to the espresso bar, throw back a cup, and dig into Nancy’s home-cooked Italian food.
