Dixie Opens in the Presidio

Southern comfort food and bourbon cocktails

dixie!

For us, Florida is more Miami Vice and leathery old ladies than Southern hospitality.

Tallahassee native Joseph Humphrey convinces us otherwise at Dixie, soft opening Tuesday in the Presidio.

Humphrey showcases his refined take on comfort food (honed from seventeen years in SF and a stint cooking for George Lucas): Local roast duck gets filthy with Southern-style dirty rice risotto; chicken and dumplings are light and fluffy with ricotta gnudi. Sip classics reinvented, like an old-fashioned with smoked sugarcane syrup from Humphrey’s Florida farm.

New Orleans-style gas lamps warm up the dining room; Southern belles prefer the patio or private rooms, with plantation shutters, wicker furniture, and playful art made from vintage rocking horses and musical instruments.

Meanwhile, a seven-course, interactive tasting menu ($72) invites patrons into the kitchen for a primer on the in-house cheese/charcuterie program and a course at the chef’s table.

Which has us whistlin’ Dixie.
