A thoroughly modern Millie’s wardrobe blends trendy this with vintage that. Here’s where to find those blasts from the past.
Store: Fly Boutique
Find: Reworked vintage (slips transformed into tie-dye maxi dresses, muumuus made into sundresses), retro pieces (Twiggy-style minis), high-end designer items (Alaia shoes galore), and shabby-chic interior decor are priced to sell at the sister boutique to the Lincoln Road original.
Where: 7235 Biscayne Blvd. (786-332-4156).
Store: Lotus House Thrift
Find: Leather jackets, ’80s blouses, Prada boots, designer handbags, and funky art — at remarkably reasonable prices — abound at the Wynwood shop benefiting homeless women and children.
Where: 203 NW 36th St., Wynwood (305-576-4112).
Store: Red White and Blue Thrift Store
Find: From Mara Hoffman sweaters to Charles Jourdan boots, the designer pickings at the thrifting emporium are almost too good to be true. And the retro isn’t bad either: ’70s Pucci nightgowns, maxi dresses a la Studio 54, and accessories from as many eras as a history book. Finds aren’t cheap, so look for color-coded discounted tags and take plenty of cash (credit cards not accepted).
Where: 901 E. 10th Ave., ste. 12, Hialeah (305-887-5351); 12640 NE 6th Ave., North Miami (305-893-1104).
Find: Silk blouses, ’70s wrap skirts, and a plethora of ’80s acid-washed jeans and jackets fill the racks at the quiet spot. Troll the dresses for Rachel Pally, Betsey Johnson, and Tracy Reese — sometimes with tags still attached — marked less than $20.
Where: 538 NE 79th St. (305-756-8000).
Store: Give Good Works (formerly Grubstake)
Find: Spy antique mirrors, vases, cake plates, and dining room chairs. The collection at the charitable thrift store proves one man’s trash is another man’s midcentury conversation piece. Shop upstairs for apparel, but tour the downstairs maze more than once to ensure you don’t overlook hidden treasures.
Where: 2401 N. Miami Ave. (305-573-2976).
