Jimmying with It

Jimmy’s Food Store Reopens

Sometimes, life just goes sour on you.

To wit: Jimmy’s Food Store. One day back in October, it’s a tiny specialty Italian food store known only to savvy neighbors in its East Dallas community. The next, it’s a pile of rubble, courtesy of a nasty fire.

Lucky for us, the owners (and brothers) Mike and Paul DiCarlo decided to look on the bright side. After months of rebuilding, they’ve reopened a new store in the same location. And its even bigger (and dare we say better?) than before.

Paul’s homemade Italian sausages, meatballs, and sauces (coveted by restaurants around town) are all back. So is the vast selection of authentic Italian imports, like olive oils, pastas, coffees, and cookies. This time around, however, there’s a larger deli case — filled with imported olives and meats like capocolla, mortadella, and salami — a butcher section,  as well as a bigger wine selection.

Of course, you’ll find an improved version of the old deli, which means you can still grab your favorite panini (tuna or prosciutto), Cuban sandwich, or muffuletta for lunch.

Not bad for a store that got tossed a few lemons.

You could say they’ve made some sweet lemonade.
