La Marea Opens

Some families summer at their Lake Como villas, roadstering it to fabulous soirees in the gardens of other villas.

You were happy if mosquitoes didn’t kill you on the pontoon in Lake Plunk, the potato salad didn’t give you food poisoning, and the QT didn’t turn you Oompa Loompa orange.

Make up for lost time at La Marea, the Mediterranean restaurant with Northern Italian flair that opens today in The Tides hotel. Born in Milan, Executive Chef Pietro Rota brings his experience from West Hollywood, California’s Il Sole; and a provocative design scheme by L.A. designer Kelly Wearstler sets the stage with reflective pendant lights, hooded armchairs, and rows of oversize faux tortoise shells.

Seafood runs the spectrum from Hawaiian king prawns and loup de mer to local fish like grouper and tuna; and his signature dish, which includes imported, pan-seared Dover sole filleted tableside, is sure to make you feel très jet-setter.

Who says it takes a villa?

La Marea, at The Tides South Beach, 1220 Ocean Drive (305-604-5070 or tidessouthbeach.com).
