You and Picasso? Nothing in common. (Your blue periods consist of Melrose Place marathons). Neither van Gogh: Self-mutilation is so not you. (The nose piercing was enough.)
The one artist you can relate to is Orlando-based Dallas Shaw. The young painter was employed at Disney World teaching character drawing (yeah, really) before concentrating on her own nonmousy pop art.
She works on canvas, wallpaper, note cards, and T-shirts. The collections include Dirty Pop (sketches named after cool song lyrics) and Vintage (paintings on rare textiles inspired by vintage wallpaper books found in her grandmother’s house).
Shaw says her creations are inspired by her love of music and fashion.
Something you can totally relate to.
Available at Art Fusion Gallery, 1 Northeast 40th Street, Design District (305-573-5730); online at dallashaw.com. Meet Shaw Saturday, 7-10 p.m., during Art and Design Night.
