It took years of therapy to get over mom’s penchant for dressing you in prints that resembled grandma’s drapes: ink blots in the shape of fleurs de lis and paisleys, countless wound-healing trips to Laura Ashley.
Next step: a few pieces by designer Kerry Cassill. After discovering Indian prints during a trip to Paris, Cassill traveled to India and decided to start her own line. She designs new patterns each season, turning them into everything from duvets to dresses.
Stock up on cover-ups like the Booti, with charcoal paisleys (the good kind), an elastic bust (great for tiny tatas), and sweet spaghetti straps (beach perfect); the Toob, a strapless, abstract black-and-white checkered dress you’ll want to throw on over that new black bikini; and a couple of her flowery muumuus and tunics.
Sometimes looking like grandma is a good thing.
