It started with a memento from the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam (your other keepsake didn’t make it through customs). Then the photography by Leonard Nimoy. Now, you’ve got more art books than The Met gift shop.
If you’ve lost sight of the fact that books should be read and not seen, ease back into the printed word with the Miami Art Museum’s new book club, which explores art in genres like mysteries, biographies, and critiques. The club’s first selection is New Art City: Manhattan at Mid-Century by New Republic art critic Jed Perl, who explores New York’s influence on the artists who lived there and vice versa. And in October, discuss the fictional art world comedy Lulu Meets God and Doubts Him.
Of course, there’s no need to burn all those coffee table books.
It would be highly illogical to cut off your ear to spite your face.
Reading Art Book Club meets 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 25, at Books and Books, 265 Aragon Avenue, Coral Gables. To R.S.V.P., call 305-375-4073 or e-mail education@miamiartmuseum.org.
