There are certain monikers that just don’t lend themselves to nicknames (Ophelia, Hortense).
And then there are those that downright scream for them, like Dolores (yeah, we know, rhymes with a female body part). Restaurateur Carlos Galan discovered that fact in a dream, he says, and named his latest eatery accordingly: Dolores but You Can Call Me Lolita. (It’s also his godmother’s name.)
Located in a historic Brickell fire station — formerly Tim Hardaway’s Firehouse Four — the newly opened (and very affordable) Dolores is a dreamy space straight out of a Pottery Barn catalog: candles, matte silver accents, dishes stacked on exposed glass shelves, and billowing curtains.
Appetizers like the serrano ham croquettes and gazpacho (for which they’ll give you the recipe) are free with the purchase of an entree, including dishes such as scallops with mango puree and Kobe beef mini burgers. For dessert, don’t be afraid to dive into the Spanish-style creme brulee.
Even if your name’s Fatima.
Dolores but You Can Call Me Lolita, 1000 South Miami Avenue (305-403-3104).
