Turntable Hero
Selected Records Opens

Yeah, you used to be all up in the WMC scene: back when knowing you liked house more than techno, but not as much as trance, was enough.
Once there started to be subgenres of subgenres, however, you just went with the deejay with the best name. (DJ Iroc-Z? So there.)
Albert Tietjen and Debbie Roif, owners of newly opened Selected Records, can give you a crash course in modern DJology. The store focuses on vinyl (Tietjen was a deejay for nearly twenty years), with more than 8,000 in stock, but sells CDs as well.
It also has two open decks (turntables), which deejays can stop by and use at no charge, and can accommodate large events and spin-offs. They even welcome those Tietjen likes to call bedroom-rocking deejays: people who have gone only so far as to pick out their names.
That would be DJ Tanner.
Selected Records, 1018 71st Street, Miami Beach (305-868-9232 or myspace.com/selectedrecords). Opening party, Saturday, 9 p.m.-Sunday, noon.
