They rock at conquistadoring. Mixing seafood and rice. And producing obscure yet brilliant film directors (we mean you, Almodóvar).
Add fashion to that list with the opening Guapa, a boutique showcasing Spanish designers, just off Lincoln Road.
Owner Maria Isabel Perez, a daughter of two Spaniards who has experience at A.P.C. and Estée Lauder, opened the store (whose name means “beautiful”) as a response to the underrepresentation of Spanish designers in the States. The result is a vibrant and colorful space offering labels like Jocomomola, La Casita de Wendy, and Miriam Ocariz.
At a time when independent boutiques along Lincoln Road are closing shop, the space is a refreshing departure from the commercial chains that have taken over the pedestrian mall.
Which should inspire you to volver again and again.
