Domo Japones Opens

Clink, clink, clink. Ladies and gentlemen, a moment of thanks — or, in Japanese, domo. Our Far East — and totally far-out — friends have enriched our lives in so many ways: hybrid cars, green tea, karaoke…

Today we dedicate this corner of the Design District to Domo Japones, a modern, Japanese-inspired bistro that opened on Tuesday. The Karine Rousseau interior — leather booths, contemporary lines, and soft lighting — is, dare we say, a visual haiku.

What else to expect from the team behind the Townhouse, Bond St., and Miss Yip Chinese Cafe?

Sushi chef Naohiro “Nao” Higuchi (Nobu at the Atlantis, Paradise Island) and chef de cuisine Timon Balloo (Azul, La Broche, Chef Allen’s) deliver not only excellent sashimi and sushi, but also surf and turf miso, Kobe beef a la plancha, and sweet soy/mirin-glazed short ribs.

To those who gave us Tokyo, sumo, and kimono, we offer a heartfelt domo.

Domo Japones, 4000 Northeast 2nd Avenue (305-573-5474).
