Fly the Co-Op

Co-Op Miami Opens

be co-operative!

You wanted to buy, but the board was displeased with the preschool you attended and the temperament of your shih tzu (lazy).

For a more free-spirited co-op, there’s the recently opened Co-Op Miami in Midtown.

Founded by sculptor Chris Allen and designer Branka Joldas, the airy industrial space offers work by local artists and designers, along with vegan munchies. Aspiring participants submit portfolios to a board of creatives that decides whom to showcase; all members help run the gallery.

Shop for Eric Lavazzon artwork, turquoise and onyx wristlettes from Justine Reynolds, Street Couture’s ecofriendly dresses, and reconstructed vintage apparel by Dezign Deluz. Then try gluten-free chocolate chip cookies or faux-egg sandwiches at the Art of Food bar.

The communal theme extends after hours with live jazz on Second Saturdays, a book and poetry club, and artist performances.

If only your apartment building was this cool.

Co-Op Miami, 3404 North Miami Avenue (co-opmiami.com).
