The suffrage movement. The repeal of prohibition. The ’20s had all the sexiest causes. What do we have? Garbage. (Seriously though, recycle.) But you can still get flapper glam with strands of colored pearls by Costa. Local designer Patricia Costa (you may recognize her name from Gen Art Fresh Faces) works behind the counter of En Avance’s new Design District digs. There she brings pearls into the millennium by combining colored gems with semiprecious stones and crystals. She crafts bracelets, earrings, even rosaries (a sexy version) — but her long necklaces are especially striking. Our favorite is three strands of mixed gray pearls, smoky quartz, and crystal pavé. Her latest collection plays with warm colors like coral, fuchsia, and aqua. But if you have something in mind, she’ll do custom work. Just make your voice heard. Available at En Avance, 161 Northeast 40th Street, Design District (305-576-0056); online at enavance.net.
