Every time you wear that denim jacket printed with your dog’s picture, a hipster is born.
Show your puppy love in a way that won’t be resold ironically by ordering a portrait cake — for human consumption only — from Brooklyn-based artist Dena Paige-Fischer.
If you’re worried about unintentional Best in Show associations, Paige-Fischer’s pedigree (mom’s a professional baker, dad’s a sculptor), love of shelter dogs (her pup Luka is a rescued pit bull), and skill cancel out unnecessary kitsch.
The portraits, which feed up to twenty people, are impressionistic but true to life. Paige-Fischer works from high-quality photos to carefully paint every whisker using food coloring. Pick from vanilla or chocolate cake (or request a flavor) and semisweet ganache, buttercream, or fondant icing.
The best bite? A portion of proceeds goes to Animal Haven in Soho. Ruff said.
Available by phone order (212-925-9097) or email ppaige1@nyc.rr.com, $175. For more information, go to bakedideas.com.
