If you share our affinity for the ’80s rebirth, consider yourself booked every first and third Wednesday of the month for Shine On, Public Works’s newest dance party.
Take a time machine to a better musical place as three local DJs (and self-professed music nerds) spin indie hits from the late ’80s UK scene (The Smiths, Happy Mondays, plus underground labels). The night kicks off with a movie-slash-happy hour, sauced with $2 shots and $3 specialty cocktails and Olympia beers (a wink to America’s own indie epicenter).
Tonight’s cult feature (The Doom Generation, with Rose McGowan) heralds a notable sound track and epic ’90s angst. Continue your musical education on the dance floor with dream pop, shoegaze, and C86 from DJs Placentina, Yule Be Sorry, and special guest Chas Gaudi, host of Shellac Shack.
Shine On, next Wednesday, 9 p.m.-2 a.m., at Public Works, 161 Erie Street, at Mission Street (415-932-0955 or publicsf.com). R.S.V.P. (before 9 p.m.) for free tickets online at facebook.com. Tickets are $5 at the door.
