The best advice we’ve ever given or received is “Eat a sandwich.”
Get wise at JoeDough, opening tomorrow, from Joe Dobias and Jill Schulster (JoeDoe).
Ancestral objets d’art (plastic moose menorah, Schulster’s pointe shoes, portraits) fill their small space, and they’ve kept the sandwich menu simple: eight regulars, one daily special, all $10.
The Conflicted Jew (challah, chicken liver, bacon, onions) is Dobias’s OG and inspiration. Order it or a brisket roll with peppercorn mayo, local cheddar, and caramelized onions. If you’re dazed and confused, a grilled cheese is EV appropriate. Dobias’s veggie-eggplant Parm with mozz and marinara comes on an Italian hero; seasonal relishes and Schulster’s celery soda round out a meal.
In homage to Long Island deli catering, they’re making three- and six-foot mix-and-match heroes. And just for DailyCandy and opening day, duck hash gets a sunny-side up turkey egg and pickled garlic radishes.
Which we politely suggest you eat.
