We Pick the Year's Best New Shops and Designers

A Look Back at 2011's Fashion Finds

best new shops and designers!

As the Earth rotates around the sun, we circle Manhattan and Brooklyn in search of new, talented designers. Here are the stars of 2011.

Bags
We looked badass in green with The Sway NYC and declared AANDD’s unisex creations the new It bags. Design duo Emily Cho supersized the clutch, while Camille Zarsky’s refined line oozed classic from the start.

Baubles and Accessories
After Andy Lifschutz’s rocky start to the year, turbands by Cult Gaia tied things up. The biggest trend to materialize was unexpected materials: Brianna Fano made it clear she’s here to stay with Lucite necklaces, Best Friends Brooklyn went for wood and glass, and Nido got geometric in porcelain.

Clothing
Silk was the story: Petiole debuted with minimalist separates, Rachel Rose painted mind-boggling blouses, It’s Okay My Dear skewed Southern, and Piamita brought pajamas into the light.

Illustrator Leah Reena Goren released cheeky printed dresses and tees; With & Wessel launched woolen basics that never itch.

We happily welcomed heavy hitters Tocca and Wendy Nichol into the ready-to-wear scene and covered up with jackets by Shui Chen and translucent rain gear from Terra New York.
