Flour + Water may have begun as an indie release, but it’s turned into box office gold (complete with lines around the block).
Partner/chef Thomas McNaughton and the F+W crew spread the fanfare with Central Kitchen, opening tomorrow in the Mission. Going straight for the trilogy, the new restaurant’s multifunctional space shares a courtyard (read: outdoor dining) with forthcoming lunch spot and gourmet grocery Salumeria (coming soon).
Chef Michael Gaines (Manresa) makes a scene from the exhibition kitchen and plating counter (the set for Northern California-centric cuisine, like roasted spring lamb with potato confit), sharing screen time with the wood- and coal-fired rotisserie. Credits go to on-site butchery, a rooftop garden and beehive, and Lisa Lu (Jardinière) in a supporting pastry chef role.
The sound track errs on the classic, with musical accompaniment from the likes of Zeppelin, Bowie, and The Stones.
Can you hear that? It’s Oscar calling.
