Demure Headpieces by Penny Chu

Headstrong fascinators

penny chu headpieces!

After last week’s mint julep-induced fiasco (where you ended up floppier than your hat), you swore to class up your act.

Start with Penny Chu’s petite toppers, inspired by NYC’s glamorous past.

After years of scouring thrift stores for enviable headpieces, the Hong Kong native enrolled in a hat-making class and launched Chuchu NY. She now fashions one-of-a-kind stunners out of her Queens apartment, using kitchen bowls as molds and fabric she finds in vintage shops.

What we’re most excited about: structured (she used to work at an architecture book publisher), art deco-inspired creations crafted from brightly colored leather, lace-trimmed black felt, and antique furniture textiles.

Each is made to order, and Chu gladly works with customers to design custom versions.

Trust us — you’ll have another.

Select styles available at The Hat Shop, 120 Thompson Street, between Prince and Spring Streets (212-219-1445); online at chuchuny.com, $160-$280. To book an appointment, email pennychuchuny@gmail.com.
