We just don’t have the chops(ticks) to accept six pieces of imitation crab, cucumber, avocado, and brown rice as a proper meal.
Fill up on okonomiyaki, a pancake/omelet hybrid of chopped cabbage, seaweed, ginger, and pork doused in special batter (it involves yams and eggs). Chef Okada Yasuhiko grills the mix ’til crisp and serves with scallions, tempura flakes, and specialty mayo.
Order it with squid or try a fried entree: cabbage and pork noodles (yakisoba), octopus dumplings (takoyaki), or chicken (kara-age) with radish and ponzu sauce. Everything costs less than nine bucks.
The first ten DailyCandy readers to R.S.V.P. are invited to a no-frills preview tasting tomorrow in Queens. Come Friday, the truck hits Midtown for lunch and Downtown for dinner.
It won’t leave you bento out of shape.
For locations, go to okadamannyc.com or follow @okadamannyc on Twitter. Preview, Thursday, 2-4 p.m., at 58 55th Street, between Grand and Flushing Avenues, Maspeth. R.S.V.P. to email@example.com.
